1st Story - Trip to Amazing Thailand

Trip to Amazing Thailand
Trip to Amazing Thailand

I was going on work trip to Thailand not very long ago. Around July and for almost 1 month I stayed there.

My 1st thought when I think about Thailand is, "Thailand is a nation which considered as a great tourism destination." And I kinda feel so happy about it. Anyway, when I decided myself, "Oh okay, I think I'm ready for some adventure there." I got some advice on how should we interact/communicate there.

I was told:

  • Don't speak badly about The King or it's Family
  • Try to speak (even a few words) Thai language
  • Don't get deceived by *sorry Transgender (boys become girls... okay noted!)
  • Becareful of it's Taxi (They will ask a high price and not using the meter)
  • Ask for cheaper price if you buy some apparels (shoes, clothes, and even electronics)
  • etc
Yes, there's still a lot more which I almost forget since so many to remember at once. So I will try to describe my experience based on the points that I wrote it before.

  • Don't speak badly about The King or it's Family
Trip to Amazing Thailand

This is the thing that I respected the most from Thailand. No one ever dare to speak or even try to speak about the King or His Family. I'm asking to my co-workers if its true about this, and they says almost the same thing to me, "Yes, Nick, The King is a good and kind person, nobody in Thai dare to speak badly about him"

And I think to myself, The King must be super kind and nowadays so few leaders in the world to deserve this much kind of attention from it's people. And I suggest to you who's reading this, Don't ever try to do so..
  • Try to speak (even a few words) Thai language

This is the hardest thing to do in Thai. And you know what, almost Thai people that I encounter can't speak English. This language barrier almost made me feel so stressed in the very first days that I lived there. For example, when I try to order food in some kind of food stall near my apartment, I barely can't order anything at all. And I have to use body language to explain what I want to the owner. And when it comes to the price totals, my fingers proved to help me a lot to describe the price explanation. So my dear friend, you better prepared to learn some Thai language if you want to visit there very first time.
  • Don't get deceived by...

As a male, I find it intriguing to know about this fact which, Thai is well known about the beauty of its transgender. One of my co-worker told me not to trust a beautiful girl just only in the 1st sight. Otherwise your eye will deceive you! When I told him, "Is it that many (transgender)?, he said to me, "Yes it is Nick." and I just like, ohh okay.. So he test me. My friend giving me 5 photos of beautiful "girls" and ask me if I can answer correctly about their sex. And I fail all of them... My friend then giving me methods on how to identify the differences which I can't write it one by one because there is to much to tell! Yes and I'm not joking at all.
  • Becareful of it's Taxi
Bangkok BTS
Bangkok BTS

What I mean here is not a criminal Taxi driver or whatsoever, but its a taxi driver that don't want to follow the rules of standard taxi regulations. They will try to ask for higher price if they know you, that you are a foreigner. And the price would be almost 3 to 10x more than the standard! So, when I was told about this, I've suggested by my friend to take another public transportation to reach places. There is also a BTS ( somekind of train rail system in Thailand) which help me a lot to go somewhere around Thai's entertainment (this BTS almost covers all the tourism attractions in Bangkok).
